bird and exotic hospital GreenacresDr. Vanessa Rolfe graduated from VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. From 1992 until July 2004 her practice in Salem VA, Avian & Exotic Veterinary Services, was also devoted to birds and exotic animals. In August 2004 she was invited to acquire The Bird Hospital from her esteemed colleague Dr. Greg Harrison who was retiring, and moved to tropical Palm Beach County, FL. She has had a long-term interest in avian and exotic pet medicine, attending classes and meetings on this subject even before veterinary school. All in all, she has had a total of 30 years general experience with these animals, twenty-six of which have been as a practicing veterinarian.
Dr. Rolfe is a specialist as she has become board-certified with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Avian Practice.bird and exotic pet care Her approach has always been a holistic one, optimizing multiple aspects of an animals environment — nutritional, husbandry, animal and caretaker behaviors — to prevent problems or to resolve existing problems and to keep the pets not only healthy but happy for a long time. To supplement the holistic approach, high-tech and leading-edge testing, radiographic (“x-rays”), anesthetic, surgical, endoscopic, and therapeutic medications and techniques are recommended and used when appropriate. Her staff is well-trained in stress-reduction techniques in handling of these special pets to keep them comfortable and secure as they can be in a strange environment. Our hospital stays up to date with new developments in the avian and exotic pet field. We participate in veterinary, breeder, pet owner, animal rescue organization meetings, we share information and consult with worldwide colleagues, and read the advanced publications in the field. Dr. Rolfe has written for publications and has lectured and consulted both domestically and internationally.
